14 Day China's Best Treasures

Tour Testimonials

China Spree's great tour guides made the trip seamless. Wonderful accommodations. Excellent value. Rewarding trip.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: 1) The Great Wall of China was incredible. We appreciated China Spree taking us to the area of the Wall that has fewer visitors so we were able to really enjoy the views in all directions. 2) The Giant Pandas at the Beijing Zoo. One climbed a tree while we were there. We have seen Pandas at US zoos several times, but have never seen one so active. 3) The Dragon Spine Terraces were breathtaking. 4) Li River cruise was beautiful. 5) Our local guide in Beijing, Andy, was great. Very knowledgeable, personable and with a good sense of humor. Our national guide, Alex, made the trip exceptional. He was very attentive to details and shared excellent information, particularly about his home city of Xi'an where he also served as the local guide.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Alex was always working hard to make sure everything was taken care of. His communications skills are excellent, he is very knowledgeable and he always went the extra mile. He worked hard to make sure no one became injured or got sick (emphasized sanitizing hands before meals). Andy in Beijing was excellent--very knowledgeable and personable.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China is a country of incredible wonders that you should not miss.

China Spree has an excellent itinerary of cities and sights to see, and excellent guides who are pleasant and eager to help, so that you are well taken care of during your visit to China. The hotels are all centrally located and very comfortable, clean, all with great breakfast variety. In order to fill all your days with China's best sights, be ready to efficiently pack up and take a plane to the next city.

CS: Did any tour guide solicit you for excellent rating? If yes, please list them below:

Answer: Sunny, Chanel, and Tony were all terrific, knowledgeable, caring, and helpful. At one point, our daughter left a passport on the plane, and Sunny efficiently retrieved it. Then I left my purse on the plane from Guilin to Shanghai, but was unsure if I had left it at the Guilin airport. Chanel went personally to the airport to check, and Sunny persistently called the airlines, and when the purse was found, even went to the airport to retrieve it on his day off. He even took the group shopping on his day off--way above the call of duty! What a great group you have.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China is quite an adventure--be ready to be amazed! Expect to experience this corner of the world and be taken way off your cultural comfort zone, in a great way. China is in every way the mysterious, magical place one imagines. However, it was a surprise, despite many of US imports are made in China, that the consumer goods in China are not appreciatively less expensive than goods bought in the US. There are readily available ATM's so there is no need to hoard a lot of cash beyond what one would comfortably be willing to carry, and most shops take credit cards for purchases.

This trip was something I wanted to do and my husband was "going along" with a slight negative attitude. He quickly found that it was a great trip and he was having fun. He couldn't be cranky even if he tried. We both had a great time. It was a trip of a lifetime.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The Great Wall was the best. The food was great and in ample amounts.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: It's OK to use the handicapped restrooms; they are western style. Ask more questions (or maybe do more research) on when flights leave and arrive in your departure city before you sign up. Know what airline is used if you request China Spree to handle the add on flight.

Use anything. Have them email me if they have any questions, I would be happy to provide a testimonial, I am one of your biggest fans.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: There was not just one. I loved the day at the Dragon Spire Terraces, the walk up, the scenery, time in the village and shops on the walk down, it was a magical day.

CS: What was the LEAST ENJOYABLE aspect of this trip for you?

Answer: Nothing. I can honestly say there was nothing that I did not like.

CS: What problem, if any, did you encounter with the itinerary, logistics, tour features and pacing of your China trip? What could we have done to improve your overall travel experience?

Answer: None. Every attention to every detail was given and delivered. I run my own company with 20 employees and we evaluate every one of our activities and group meetings like you are doing here. In 8 years, I have not reached the level of excellence that you have reached in these tours.

CS: What tour features and sites are unnecessary to be included in your trip?

Answer: We had a "full day" everyday and that is what I had hoped for. Take nothing out.

CS: Do you think it is worth to visit Suzhou and Tongli?

Answer: Oh . . . yes. I could have used more time at both places. If there were anyway to squeeze an extra 30 minutes in at each place I would do so. Tongli could be enjoyed simply by walking around the streets and canals.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: His performance was exemplary. You have to know what an unique and wonderful person you have there. At every minute, every conversation, every interaction he was working to make certain that everything was taken care of and every activity was perfect. I have already told 20 people that they must go to China, that China Spree is the only way to go and Sunny will "open" the country up to their enjoyment and wonder.

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: I lover the approach of having both a national and local guide available. It added a lot to our understanding, an excellent team.

CS: Please list the hotels you like BEST and LEAST, and specify why?

Answer: 1. Sheraton, Xian - great breakfast, nice room 2. Marriott, Shanghai - great breakfast, nice view, room very nice 3. Marriott, Beijing - nice accommodations, great breakfast 4. Sheraton, Guilin - very nice, good neighborhood and park close by to walk

CS: In your opinion, how many good meals did you have during your trip? Could you please list them in order from 1 to 10 (1 is the best) to the best of your memory?

Answer: One after another. And I really appreciate the variety (dumplings, hot pot, Peking Duck, the artistry of the Guilin siteetc.). The meals were a "10", better than if I had very important visitors come and visit me for a week, I could not keep the quality as high as your company did so. I noted that everyone in our group was highly complimentary of the food and the experiences. Meals were always something to look forward to, just to see what was going to happen!

CS: Did you often come across repetitive dishes during your China trip? What were they? Please specify the bad or mediocre meals and restaurants that we should make change.

Answer: Nothing repetitive, rather it was just the opposite. It was surprising just how many different things there were.

CS: China is renowned the world over for its many famous cuisines. The Chinese food you ate on your China tour maybe different from what you are used to in North America. Which do you like better? In which way? Why?

Answer: the food on the tour was outstanding, authentic, served and presented as it is for the locals, just as we hoped for. All of the people in our group (and I would guess for most tours) are seasoned travelers and would be disappointed if they did not have the experience that you offered for us. You just did it better than any other group in any country I have visited myself.

CS: Other Comments and thoughts on how we can improve the meal arrangements for China Spree tours.

Answer: I know you will be successful in your business because of the excellence you demand in every part. I admire just how many times in different ways you reach this excellence.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go now. Don't wait.

Across the board, our China Spree tour experience positively exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed every aspect of our tour, including the fine people that we toured with. The itinerary was a great mix of the standard tourist spots plus some side trips and activities that were unique and fascinating. The hotels and the food were fine. Our tour guides could not have been any better, especially our National Guide, Ming Li. If you can arrange to tour with Ming, you are fortunate indeed.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Our national tour guide, Ming Li, did several kind and considerate things for the two of us that made our tour extra special. Knowing that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, she arranged for a special cake and wine toast celebration at the Tang Dynasty show dinner theater in front of the entire audience. She also provided me with a special treat at lunch and a song from a street musician on my 64th birthday. Without any request from us, she arranged for my wife and me to have a double bed room in a hotel that had very few such rooms. She went above and beyond to retrieve a luggage lock that my wife lost on the tour bus. Ming Li was the highlight of my China trip that I wish to share.

CS: What was the LEAST ENJOYABLE aspect of this trip for you?

Answer: All parts of this trip were enjoyable for us.

CS: What tour features and sites are unnecessary to be included in your trip?

Answer: We were quite pleased with all of the features and sites.

CS: Do you think it is worth to visit Suzhou and Tongli?

Answer: Yes, we enjoyed these.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Ming Li was a huge reason why we had such a wonderful experience. She is very professional, dedicated, knowledgeable, personable, and kind and considerate (see Section 2 above for a few examples). She has very good English language skills and is quite adept at communicating important information, including very interesting cultural insights. When we arrived, Ming had just completed a 19-day tour and was scheduled to rest for a few days. However, China Spree asked her to handle our tour and, very lucky for us, she agreed to do so. Whatever her salary is, China Spree should increase it and pay her more -- she is worth it!

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: All of our local guides were excellent and did a fine job. Lisa stood out because of her friendliness and bubbly personality. Jack was exceptional due to his amazing English language skills and his depth of knowledge.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: If you are thinking about a tour in China, you should do it by all means. You won't be disappointed.

The trip was thoughtfully organized to give travellers an overview of city, country, and cultural experiences. Our trip covered the must-sees as well as giving us a taste for the way of life of the Chinese - Climbing The Great Wall, seeing The Terra Cotta Army as well as negotiating our way through groups of exercising seniors in parks and practicing our bartering skills for souvenirs. Our tour guide, Sunny, was caring, humorous, and knowledgable. Without him we would have been rudderless in that vast country.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Our guide, Sunny or Sun Hongbin was outstanding. He was terrific throughout. I suspect you are looking for a particular city or site however. It truly is hard to name just one.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Hongbin was better than "Excellent." On the last day, a free day, he gave of his time to take us around Shanghai by subway-the whole day! His best qualities were his knowledge of Chinese history, his candour, his humanity and his easy sense of humour.

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: I have rated Hongbin, Kevin, and Fei Fei all excellent in performance and communication skills. There are gradations however. Hongbin, as a complete guide, was certainly the best, but Kevin's communication skills were absolutely superb. Kevin exuded scholarship and wisdom. Fei Fei was bubbly and refreshing. Ginger was more direct and to the point. It was good to have a variety of guides.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Keep an open mind. Be sensitive to your fellow travellers' biases. Oh, . practice your chopstick skills before you go.

Our experience with China Spree was very good from the minute I booked the trip to the time I arrived home. Pretrip, everything you needed to know was available to you. Questions could be answered via phone call or email and they always answered questions in a timely fashion. During the trip, the guides seemed to be available 24/7. Our national guide, Sunny shared his phone number and email so we could reach him 24 hours a day if we needed. The itinerary was spectacular and the timing manageable to see all the sights. All the guides were very knowledgable and shared many interesting facts about all the sights we went to. Our last day was a free day but Sunny spent most of the day with many of us. He guided us through shopping in Shanghai to accompanying us on a boat cruise on the Huangpo River. The skyscrapers are spectacular at night. Overall, the entire trip was A+. Cathy

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: I enjoyed everything. The time we were given to see everything worked out well. The amount of free time was well also. Did not spend a lot of time shopping so as to allow us to see the important sites.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Sunny is very knowledgable but also very caring. My husband had to leave halfway through the trip and Sunny was there to help him make emergency arrangements to fly home as well as take care of the others on our tour. He got us to the dinner and show on time while talking on the phone to help my husband make his flight reservations,

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: Although all the guides did an excellent job, Sunny and Kevin stand out as our favorites. They both have a passion for what they do and proved it all the while we spent with them. They answered all of our questions about their lives and so we got an insight about what life is like in China. They seemed to truly like their jobs and they attended to all of our individual needs as necessary.

CS: In your opinion, how many good meals did you have during your trip? Could you please list them in order from 1 to 10 (1 is the best) to the best of your memory?

Answer: 1. The best and most memorable was the tea house in Guilin. Beautiful dishes. 2. Peking duck. 5. Dim Sum. 9. Jade Factory. 10. Hot Pot.

CS: I know it is not ideal to eat Chinese meals everyday for that many days of your entire China trip. How seriously do we need to arrange western style meals for you?

Answer: We ate Chinese even on our free days. I did not tire of the Chinese food at all. The ability to have Western Breakfasts was plenty for me.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: I would definitely recommend China Spree to everyone.

Our trip to China exceeded all expectations. China Spree offered an amazing experience that was very well organized and so enjoyable. It was obvious that alot of attention was paid to the smallest of details and to the planning of the biggest events. This made all the difference and we would happily recommend China Spree to anyone planning a trip to China.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: While we really enjoyed seeing those sights that China is so famous for such as the Great Wall and the Terra Cotta Warriors, a second highlight was experiencing the cultural life of China. We've have been telling friends and family that every day was amazing.

CS: What was the LEAST ENJOYABLE aspect of this trip for you?

Answer: We enjoyed each experience in different ways so we were very happy with the tour.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Ming was a wonderful tour guide, full of enthusiasm, very knowledgeable and organized. We very much appreciated her willingness to answer all our questions about China. She helped to make our trip an amazing experience. Our group was a lot of fun and we all loved Ming!

CS: In your opinion, how many good meals did you have during your trip? Could you please list them in order from 1 to 10 (1 is the best) to the best of your memory?

Answer: A couple of our favorites were the dumpling meal in Xian before the theatre show and the fresh noodle soup at the restaurant where we toured the Terra Cotta Warriors. We enjoyed watching the chefs made thier noodles.

CS: I know it is not ideal to eat Chinese meals everyday for that many days of your entire China trip. How seriously do we need to arrange western style meals for you?

Answer: We don't think you need to change this. We appreciated that western style breakfast was available each morning for those who wanted it. When we travel, we want to experience the food of the country we're visiting. So we enjoyed all the lunches and dinners we had.

CS: China is renowned the world over for its many famous cuisines. The Chinese food you ate on your China tour maybe different from what you are used to in North America. Which do you like better? In which way? Why?

Answer: We loved the food we had during our tour because it was authentic. We very much appreciated this part of the cultural experience that China Spree incorporates into it's tours.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go! It was the trip of a lifetime.

Our tour with China Spree was excellent! This was our first trip with China Spree and we would definitely travel with them again. We have already recommended them to others interested in visiting China. The tour exceeded our expectations! The National tour guide was top notch and made our trip an outstanding one! All of our hotel accommodations were all five star. Delicious buffet breakfast was served every morning. All of the restaurants were outstanding! The Chinese food was excellent! The tour that we took included a wide variety of experiences and everywhere we had hoped to visit in China. The entire tour was awesome!

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Our tour guide, Lisa was the hightlight of our tour. She made everything so enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable, professional, fun and went out of her way to insure that we had an excellent educational and adventurous trip!! We loved her and have already suggested that other travelers request her!The food and choice of restaurants was excellent. The visits with the Chinese families and the meal with the one family was outstanding!

CS: What was the LEAST ENJOYABLE aspect of this trip for you?

Answer: The least enjoyable for us was that we had to end it!

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Lisa went above and beyond to make our trip outstanding!!! Very organized, very enthusiastic, gave so much of herself when I know she must have been extremely tired. She communicated very well....we loved her stories!!! We felt like her family!!

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. The guides were fabulous, especially the National guide. He was AMAZING! The hotels, the daily agends, the bus trips, the narration of each local guide, the sequence of sightseeing sites, all admissions being included, the show in Xi'an was fabullous! and the shanghia acrobats. Adn to have all this included! The fact that I was NEVER asked topay for anything extra or optional, was unbelieveable! All addmissions, all meals, etc. But Hongbin Sun was the highlite. HE was so pleasant, so attenive, so knowledgeable. He made each of us feel as if we were best friends, each directly. He was THE BEST!!!

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Sunny could not have been better!!! He was cordial. He knew each of us and treated each as best friends. He was smiling and available with endless energy. We really felt taken care of. When were shopping, he asked what each wanted and he remembered and pointed out, you asked about pearls, you asked about silk scarves - next stop will have better products; buy your kites here. He came over to me at one point, days later, Judy you've been wanting this - here is the best store for that! He was excellent and resourceful at our on-the-spot needs....we were tired and the dinner restaurnat was a drive away; he asked, should we eat sooner and closer? and he called and changed our dinner restaurnat. I couldn't beleive China Spree provided an airport dinner when we had an evening flight! One client had to go back to USA on day 5; Sunny spent hours with him, getting him flights & eveything he needed to depart indepenently! Suuny answered all questions amicably, I LOVED the first day introduction: "If you get lost, wait where you are and I will find you! I know my way around". "Take my phone number, and ask anyone to call me, if you are lost". Telling us every "Happy Room" and how long until the next Happy Room. It seems silly, but being strangers in a strange land, food and bathroom & mundane things are important! and Sunny was GREAT at filling all our personal needs in addition to the history, culture, customs of China. I can't say more wonderful things about him...always attentive & enegetic. He seemed to like each of us. He carried our shopping bags, He helped the 86 year old & anyone else uncertain on steps. etc. We felt he was a great friend! and a great resource. Even when we had a local guide in each city, Sunny's presence was felt. He contributed to the narration. He came on every walking tour, bringing up the rear. We knew he was not sleeping the back of the bus....he was very actively involved everyday in every way!!! He stayed at each hotel, at the end of every day, until we were all gone from the lobby and up in our rooms. He seemed there whenever you needed him, and even when you didn't, he was smiling somewhere nearvby & ready to chat or talk or help. JUST A GREAT AND VERY HARDWORKING DEDICATED GUY! He seemed to enjoy his job, and we all adored him!!! He waited at Shanghai airport, helped us thru check-in, and waited, waving good-bye, as we each passed out of sight at security, bound for home. I actually had tears in my eyes leaving Sunny! I cannot say enough to equal the highest quality Sunny contributes to China Spree.

CS: Please list the hotels you like BEST and LEAST, and specify why?

Answer: I LOVED THEM ALL. I couldn't believe the quality and location of the hotels at this price point! Breakfast was incredible! and daily the same amazing assortment of delicious & endless choices. ALL GREAT!!!

Some friends who are well-traveled suggested China Spree to us. The pricing and itinerary seemed reasonable. Plus, they offered a "vegetarian option." That was the selling point since my husband is strict vegetarian. Still, we did not expect much for the price and being China - the "vegetarian option." We were surprised throughout the trip at how thoughtful an itinerary it is. Very fast paced, but because of good planning and a good guide, the tour is doable for everyone. Every item on the itinerary was fulfilled and then some. The hotels were top notch, much more luxurious than we expected. We have already recommended China Spree to everyone we've talked to, and will continue to do so. Thank you China Spree. And thank you Julie for taking such good care of us.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The Great Wall in Beijing - having a couple of hours to hike and explore. Plus, it was a clear blue sky day and there was a bride having her photo session there in a vibrant red Chinese gown. Our tour group got along so well that we had fun everywhere we went.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Julie enhanced our experience more than we can tell you. She seemed to know the answer to all our questions, made sure we all knew what was happening, and kept track of everyone's individual needs. My husband is a vegetarian, and she made sure he had something to eat at every meal - not an easy feat in China!

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: I admired that they could all be enthusiastic about the itinerary when they have to do all those things repeatedly. Lin in Beijing was especially fun and engaging. The local guides would be out late at night with us and then have to show up early the next morning to lead our tours. A couple of them seemed tired, but they didn't seem to scale back their services.

The people in our group were all happy with the China Spree 14 Day Best Treasures tour.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: In Beijing we ate lunch in the Hutong area where a family prepared the food and visited with us. This experience was great, especially early in the tour. We also loved going to the park where Chinese people of all ages go to exercise, play music, and dance. The Great Wall and Terra Cotta Warrior experiences are must sees, of course. The Muslim market in Xian was very interesting. A group walked from the Marriott to the Bund at night with Julie and enjoyed the experience so much that we did it again the night of our free day.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Julie was outstanding. Her knowledge and experience came through in her ability to give information about nearly everything anyone asked, whether is deal with history, the government, the climate, the people, the food, or anything. Her attention to details made all of us use our time well. She went out of her way to accommodate each and every traveler. She helped us learn words. She has a great sense of humor. She treated us like family and cared about us. Most of all, she was sincere, authentic, and a person of integrity. Your company needs National Guides like Julie.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: We would recommend that they look into China Spree when traveling to China.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Personally, I prefer outdoor activities, so for me all the trips in Guilin area were just awesome and unforgettable. Also I really appreciate the outstanding job of Guilin's local representative Zhi Guo (Jack), he is highly competent specialist and a great person. And of course the water village of Tongli.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: We would like to add a couple of words about our guides and the outstanding job they have done during our trip to make it not only excellent, but also an extraordinary. On our trip we had the privilege to be hosted by Ming Li (Ming is the best, most detail-oriented and dependable group guide we have ever met on our trips to the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and in the US), Lisa, Alex, Tony and Zhi Guo (Jack is highly competent specialist). These folks have a great sense of humor, which is extremely important to keep everybody in a good mood, always went the extra mile and did everything possible, and presumably impossible, to make this trip pleasant for each individual in the group. For instance, they arranged additional tours, which were not on our itinerary, made reservations for a massage therapy, helped with shopping, interpreting etc. Also Ming was buying local fruits and snacks to share the local taste and traditions with our group. We highly appreciate her help with purchasing extra luggage bags for our group (we all had a ton of shopping that required an extra space), she was helping to serve in restaurants when they were shorthanded and educated us about the differences and benefits of local dishes, always made sure that everybody had enough food, water, felt good and comfortable. Also Ming was helping our group-mates with their special requests (e.g. changing hotel room, locating currency exchange machines, suggesting restaurants and places to go on our spare time) and all of us were equal in importance to her, which is extremely hard to achieve. Without Ming this trip would not have been so fantastic and unforgettable as it was.

14-Day China's Best Treasures

China Spree's 14 Day Best Treasures is a wonderful tour. We were able to get a glimpse of the China we had heard about........Great Wall, Terra Cotta Warriors, Shanghai Acrobats, Li River, landscapes, Tiananmen Square Forbidden City and the Chinese people, culture, and food. Our national tour guide, Lucy, was a true gem! The hotels were more than we expected. The Chinese people were so friendly and many spoke English, especially the younger ones. We were impressed by everything the tour offered!

CS: Please list the hotels you like BEST and LEAST, and specify why?

Answer: Guilin's location was wonderful and we felt so safe walking the streets around the hotel. Marriott, Shanghai, had the best breakfast of any of the hotels. We really didn't find any fault with any of them.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Lucy was a national guide and she was absolutely wonderful. She went above and beyond what was necessary to make this trip so very enjoyable. She is way above a 5* rating!! I did not go on one tour and she arranged a lunch for me at the hotel. She took people to the subway on her final day, even though she was not required to do so. She explained everything so well. She was just the "best" in all ways. As for local guides, their enthusiasm really added to the trip. They all had different styles and presentations, but all were very enjoyable and helpful.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: We loved our national tour director, Lucy. She was the best part of the tour. We were impressed with the Shanghai Acrobatics as well as the expected awe with the Great Wall and the Terra Cotta Warriors.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: We do not believe that you could find a better tour of China, especially for the cost and what all is included. There are no hidden costs, as everything is covered. Not many tours cover all excursions, almost all meals, provide top-rated hotels, and transportation to and from China and within China

Lucy is an Amazing National Guide. Her knowledge, experience, communication skills and attention to details were impeccable. I am in the customer service business and have never seen such excellent wonderful personalized service in my entire career. She was a delight to be around and made us feel like family and now consider her a good friend. During the trip she went above and beyond by making us feel important and accommodating to our every need and included our input on things as the tour progressed. All our local guides were informative and great.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Yes, while the Great Wall and Terracotta Soldiers were the highlights, I would have to say Longsheng Dragon Spine Terraces and local lunch there were a particular highlight of mine and not to be missed.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China Spree is the best Tour company by far hands down and would not hesitate to take them again on another trip. You cannot find a better value with a 5 star escorted experience with a small group feel. Their customer service is impeccable, exceeded my expectation and I am in the customer service business. I generally like to travel independently but felt like an escorted tour of China was prudent with the language barrier and wanted to also visit more remote towns with a unique experience. China Spree incorporated all my requirements and was absolutely thrilled I did exceeding all my expectation. Look no further and use China Spree.

I have been considering a visit to China for several years, but it was not until my mother and sisters visited China and came back with rave reviews about China and China Spree that I began to take more serious look at going. Despite the fact that my family members gave both China and China Spree such rave reviews, I still did my own research on escorted tour companies and found China Spree to be the very best in all aspects. When I decided to use China Spree I found the experience to be a very rewarding as you took care of all the important details and solved all my concerns. Your National guide Ming is just perfect, and your local guides are excellent. Now I see that you are about to offer tours to other regions of the world(World Spree), and I could not be happier. It is now difficult for me to imagine any other tour group matching your standards.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Ming, Lisa, Alex, John and Tony all proved to be most excellent. As our national guide Ming was just fantastic. She rose above the crowd and performed at a level that will be very difficult to beat. Attention to detail, all guides showed that they have a vested interest in the group and that nothing was too much to ask of them. Just ask and they will deliver...no problem. A good guide will either make or break a tour. China Spree employs some very excellent guides both on the National and Local levels.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China is a very diverse and complicated country. Reading travel books and other sauces of information on China will not give the traveller a true insight into the nature of the country, it is only by going to China with a good tour company, who employs good and knowledgeable guides will the traveller truly see, feel, taste, smell the real China, and in my experience only China Spree will offer that service.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Ming Li gets a five star rating. All 28 of us were thrilled to spend 12 days with her. We were sad to see the end of the trip. Ming was tireless, thoughtful, caring, and anticipated our every need. She was always there if we needed something. She was knowledgeable, friendly funny, sweet and treated us as family. All of our local guides were also excellent. We loved Alex, whose knowledge of Xian history was impressive. loved his very American style and youthfulness. Lisa in Beijing was sweet and helpful and we learned so much about beijing's history from her. she's a great representative for China. We admired jack's wit and personal insights about Guilin. He taught us much about the local people and the culture. Tony showed us a wonderful time in Shanghai. He impressed us with his knowledge of silkworms in Suzhou. to us, he represents modern day China. We loved them and would them to our homes.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: This is a trip for people who are adventurous enough to experience a country with a long and fascinating history and culture. Go and meet new people, try new and delicious foods and see new places. It truly is an adventure that will fill your days and tire your feet but you'll love it.

Answer: Ming saw to our every need. If anyone mentioned something, she took care of it. She could not have been better and if there was a way to score her higher than excellent, I would. She is a most excellent representative for your company. I can not imagine that you have anyone that is better. She is kind, she listens, she is informative, she is caring and most knowledgeable.

CS: Your comment on group meals

Answer: I like the China meals better than Chinese meals in North America. The China cuisine has many vegetable what I really liked and sauces were not too heavy.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China Spree's Tour was fantastic and fascinating. China Spree took care of our every need. When I read the testimonials on the site and they were all so good, I thought they might have been posted by employees! But now I know they were not. If the tour had ended at the end of the first week, I would have thought I got my money's worth. The tour was worth every dollar spent. It truly was an experience of a lifetime. I would highly recommend China Spree. Our National Guide, Ming, could not have been more knowledgeable and experienced. Our local guides were equally excellent. The hotels were top notch and we never tired of the Chinese meals, each meal was different. I will be checking to see what other tours China Spree offers.

You will see the very iconic sights in China (Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall, the Terra-Cotta Warriors, Chinese acrobats, etc.). You will enjoy extremely tasty Chinese cuisine every day. And you will stay in first-rate hotels. I don't know what more you could want from a tour of China.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The visit to the iconic Great Wall was the personal highlight for me. I only wish we could have had more time there. I was also very pleased with the food that we were served for our various lunches and dinners. Generally, it was most excellent, which is important to me.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: National guide-Peter was great. He has a very affable and friendly manner. He used humor during his explanations of our itinerary and meal plans. And he gave very insightful talks about China's history, including the recent history under Communist leadership, as well as about his own life and experiences. Local guides were very attentive to the job of leading our group, and the pace was good.

CS: Your comment on hotels

Answer: All of the hotels were excellent.

CS: Your comment on group meals

Answer: Chinese food in North America has little flavor compared to what we ate in China. The vegetables were prepared very nicely. I love stir-fried pea pods, and eggplant dishes and cauliflower dishes. Everything was seasoned beautifully. A few items were too spicy hot, with chili peppers, but that's okay. Some people like to eat the hot foods. And there was fried tofu at one restaurant that was absolutely delicious.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: The cultural experience is well worth taking this trip.

The local guides were extremely knowledgeable, immersed us in the culture and history, and engaged the old and young alike. Our national tour guide, Jing, was outs tanding! She was attentive and caring, organized and responsible, and her English nearly flawless. She went above and beyond to make sure that each and every member of our group was happy and enjoying their time in China. She was the perfect host and by the end of our two weeks, part of our family. The next time we travel to China, we will book through China Spree and will request Jing as our national guide!

CS: Comment on your tour guide

Answer: Jing was outstanding. Able to anticipate each of our needs, kept us well advised of the plans and requirements, handled hotel and airline check-ins each and every time, and always had a gracious smile and a caring and positive attitude. She went above and beyond for our Farewell Dinner, which was an 80th birthday celebration for our dad. We had extended family in Shanghai and she arranged for an additional table, separate check, and ice cream (birthday boy's favorite!) It was obvious that she cared about our well-being and happiness. She wanted us to enjoy our stay in China and took the time and effort to help those who needed extra assistance, and cared for us like we were her own family

CS: Your comment on hotels

Answer: Best: Sheraton Xian. Excellent facilities from guest rooms to exercise room to dining room. Breakfast selection and quality excellent, including excellent wait staff. And free wifi! There was no LEAST for us. We would stay at any of these hotels (or hotels of this caliber) again.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Our tour guide, Lisa, was a main highlight of the tour. She was extremely professional, loving and kind. The sites we saw and learned about were all wonderful. We learned so much because of Lisa. The hotels were all lovely and the breakfast buffets were beyond our expectations. The 4 cities were brought to life because of Lisa's continual explanations to us

CS: Your comment on your group meals

Answer: I liked all of them! Best was the Welcome dinner of Peking Duck & the last dinner in Shanghai at that lovely restaurant. I loved the beautiful stringed musicians & their music. No bad, no mediocre. Seriously, we loved all the restaurants and the food

CS: Your comments on your tour guides

Answer: Lisa felt like a part of our family. Professional, kind, interested in us & making our tour the best. She is very knowledgeable on the culture and history of China.

All 3 taught us basic Chinese and made us feel very comfortable. They were funny and smart and wanted to do everything they could to make our trip the best.

CS: Can you please share your experience on how to prepare for this trip? Any packing tips you would like to share with future CS travelers? Which book about China would you recommend to our future travelers?

We definitely would recommend China Spree (or its subsidiaries to other parts of East Asia) as its concern for the well-being and enjoyment of its clients is very evident in its organization and attention to details. The tour price is very reasonable given that the package tour could very well be described as a luxury tour given the excellent accommodations, daily meals, extensive tour itinerary and above all, outstanding guides who are dedicated in providing the very best efforts to meet high expectations of quality and service.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: There is no way our National Guide, Jing, could have improved our touring experience. She is, without a doubt, your best Chinese ambassadress, outstanding in every category listed above. Namely, excellence in overall performance was reflected in the smooth functioning of details she arranged, from hotel accommodations (even checking us all in individually at the Sheraton Hotel in Xian) to group control. Her communication skills were outstanding, long experience at this work being exhibited by her impeccable English in describing particular tour features as well as the culture of her country and people. She was at the airport counter for our flight to Xian when it appeared that there was a problem with my husband's check-in. It turned out that in issuing his ticket, a number was transposed in his passport number so he couldn't be issued a boarding pass. Jing got right on the phone and telephoned wherever she needed to call and got the matter resolved within 10 minutes. Whew! As for services and availability, an outstanding example was when she personally made arrangements to transport an injured woman (who bumped into her husband and fell on her side) for x-ray service in Guilin when it appeared that she could not walk without pain. Not content with an initial diagnosis of a hairline hipbone fracture, Jing made further arrangements for another x-ray test when we arrived in Shanghai the next day (and leaving us in the care of a very capable local guide "Tony") but rejoining us in the early afternoon. No doubt she made further arrangements for transportation to the airport for this couple's return trip from Shanghai. Knowledge of Chinese culture was indisputable. Our lengthy bus rides (dictated by horrendous traffic especially in Beijing and Shanghai which Jing made sure to tell us in the beginning that this was one problem she could not solve) were made more enjoyable by her recounting of historical facts as well as personal information about her family life and that of her contemporaries giving us a feel for what it's like to live in China. Her passion for the job is undeniable. She was like the "mother hen" making sure that all her ducks were in line on tours, assisting the waiters/waitresses in bringing us extra bottles of beer (thank God for that on those hot and muggy days!) and describing the particular dishes of which there were many at each meal, advising us of time schedules for departure, cautioning us to protect our valuables, recognizing that when "nature called", we stopped where we could especially in the countryside with Jing describing our "happy houses" (toilet facilities) from "Zero Star" to "Five Star" [western toilets]" which prepared us somewhat as to what to expect (needless to say, we did not tarry long in some places!). One further example of her caring enough to make the trip memorable, she and "Tony" collaborated in presenting a tour member with a birthday cake by Tang Dynasty performers and then an anniversary cake to another couple on our last night together in Shanghai. Again, there is no question but that Jing contributed to a very memorable experience for all 25 of us as evidenced by our individual evaluation of her skills and personality.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Peter was personable, funny, informative, happy--he made us feel like we were his favorite tour group. I was impressed with all the guides' excellent spoken English. It was accent free and very easy to understand.

CS: Your comment on group meals

Answer: I often eat Chinese food in America in restaurants frequented mainly by Chinese people. The food on this trip was the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. Maybe that's because I usually don't choose the variety of dishes you provided on this trip. I think China Spree should sell a cookbook at the end of the tour with recipes of the dishes we ate.

CS: Your comment on hotels

Answer: All the hotels were great. I liked Sheraton's free computers in the lobby for guests. The new Sheraton in Xian was over the top luxury. The staff in all the hotels were very friendly and attentive to their guests.

The China's Best Treasures was one of the best trips we have taken in our lives. All the ancient history and culture we learned was above and beyond our expectations. The sites are breath taking. When we saw the Great Wall and the Terre Cotta Warriors and Horses, we were dazed at their magnificent beauty. We met the farmer who discovered the burial sites of the Terre Cotta Warriors and Horses. When we traveled to Guilin, you felt the peace, artistic beauty, the ancient way of gardening, and enjoyed the village life of the province. When you get to Shanghai, we felt we had made a full circle of all the representation of China's best landscape. The Bund, the Jinmao Building, and going to the 88th floor was the grand finale. We felt we had toured all of the best of China's different way of living/ life style.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The whole trip was full of history and China's ancient culture. We enjoyed The Great Wall and the Terre Cotta Warriors and Horses. We were in awe of the Forbidden City and its history. We enjoyed the mountains side of the Dragon Back-bone Terraces. It was interesting to learn the culture and the history of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. We enjoyed the Li River. Even the Reed Flute Cave was interesting to us since we are from a "cave" state in the U.S.A.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: National guide Lisa-Superb, Exemplary, Exceptional, Detailed (the littlest detail was cared for), Passion for us to know your culture and history, well learned, Enthusiastic, Compassionate, and one of the best tour guides I have ever had. She will be one of the reasons I would use China Spree again. Keep her!!!! I will ask to have Lisa as my guide.

Local guides are exemplary and outstanding, too. Channel even arrange for us to have reflexology and massages. Daniel and Channel were so knowledgeable about China's culture and history. They were made learning fun. We saw sites that we did not expect to see. Keep them, too!

CS: Your comment on hotels

Answer: We liked the Shanghai Marriot City Center. All the hotels exceeded our expectations. They all were exceptionally clean and nice.

CS: Your comment on group meals

Answer: All of our meals met our satisfaction to be listed as "1". It exceeded our expectations. We were wanting to experience the Chinese cuisine. All dishes were explained as to the ingredients. We tried them all. We liked your Chinese cuisines. Since being home, we have gone to the book store and bought books on cooking Chinese. we liked your Chinese dishes because it seemed to have less sauce/gravy. We liked the lotus root. We did find the peppers were much more spicy than American Chinese food. Your vegetables seemed to be fresher in the dishes.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

We had an absolutely wonderful travel experience with China Spree. We had never before heard of China Spree until we saw it’s name on postings in Tripadvisor. We exchanged some emails with a few of the tripadvisor folks who had toured with China Spree and that’s what sold us. Plus, we considered the cost to be very affordable and you really got a terrific value for your buck. We selected the China’s Best Treasures tour because the itinerary had all of the sites that we had ever dreamt of seeing in China, plus the extras such as the Dragon Spine Terraces, Yao Dong home, and Suzhou & Tongli water towns. This tour had obviously been planned thoroughly and attention had been given to everything from places to see and experience, to hotels, restaurants, transportation, and to the selection of wonderful guides. It truly was a "Best Treasures of China", from the ancient to the modern, from urban high rise cities to rural farmlands, from the incredible Li River vistas to the Pudong skyline: the tour covered it all and was extremely well choreographed. We felt as though we had truly seen all the facets of China and been provided glimpses into all it’s cultural diverity. We knew it would be fast paced because it was covering a lot of ground but we were very pleased that we never felt rushed and had ample time at each wonderful location to savor the experience. Ming Li was our National Guide and she was terrific. Ming was well organized and had very good communication skills. She was enthusiatic, engaging, fun, very knowledgeable and above all genuinely cared about every person in the group and that they were have a great experience. She managed the tour very well. We also couldn’t have been happier with the local guides (Lisa, Connie, and Ginger) who provided a wealth of information and interesting stories and anecdotes about every sight we visited. Overall, we give China Spree and A+.

CS:Comment on your tour guide

Ming truly enhanced our experience while on tour. We have traveled twice with Tauck World Discoveries (Italy & Tanzania) and they employ professional tour directors who are excellant. Ming is equal to them in every regard. She managed our group with a professional ease without being bossy nor talking down to people. Her communication skills were terrific and her instuctions were always clear. She was always alert to any special needs a person might have and was genuinely concerned that every person in our group was having a good experience. She provided very interesting talks on a variety of both historical and modern day subjects while we were in transit and was able to answer questions to everyone’s satisfaction. She helped us manage through the airports and helped obtain our boarding passes. She was great with all of our local guides and seem to have a genuine comraderie with them. Toward the end of the tour, all of us began calling her Momma Ming because she was taking such good care of us. She was well organized, engaging, fun, and very knowledgeable! WE LOVED HER!

We booked our trip pretty blindly, based only on the recomendation of a couple that we met on a cruise. From our first encounter with the first person at China Spree, we felt safe, secure and well taken care of. Everyone was helpful and knowledgable. The trip was so much more than I ever could have expected. We had a wonderful tour guide, a wonderful group of 22 travelers that didn’t take long to blend into one big happy family, wonderful clear weather and we found at least one western style toilet everywhere we went. The trip consisted of alot of contrasts. We had the perfect mix of history lesson, art, architecture, natural beauty and native culture. We visited the splendor of the forbidden city and then toured a Hutong (working class)local courtyard section of town and had lunch prepared for us by a local family. We visited the 4 story cultural museum in Shanghai and learned the art of bargaining with local street vendors. The Greal Wall and the terra cotta warriors defy description. I was awed by both. Seeing the process of silk making from the pupea chomping of the mulberry leaves to the silk being woven was facinating. Every morning, we would think to ourselves, what more could there possibly be to see, and then at the end of the day we would fall into bed exhausted and amazed at all that we had experienced that day. What a great trip!

CS: Comment on your tour guide

Answer: Ron had an uncanny ability to show up beside you right when you had a question. We would be standing there looking at something and suddenly Ron was there to explain what we were looking at. He was able to get us aisle sits on every flight, which I thought was amazing. We enjoyed his knowledge and frankness about conditions in China, in the past and the present. While all around us tour guides were yelling trying to keep their groups together, Ron had a clap rythmn that he used that was easy to identify. He had us trained like Pavlovs dogs, Ron would clap and 22 heads would pop up and we we all gather around. It was such an efficient way to gather. It didn’t take long for some of the kids in our group to take over the clapping rythmn for him.

We really did not know what to expect with our trip to China, but it exceeded any expectations we had! It was an amazing journey, with a great balance of historical sights and cultural experiences. We saw all of the major sights (Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, etc.) but also experienced a meal in a local resident's home, attended cooking school, went to a market where locals shop, visited rural homes, and learned how silk was made. We also really liked the itinerary of our 14 day China's Best Treasures as we went from urban areas, to the countryside for a breath of fresh air, and then on to Shanghai. We covered so much ground. Our guides were all excellent! Very well informed, professional and efficient and aimed to please. Our days were well planned to avoid huge crowds and maximize our time. We had a nice group of 12 people of various ages ranging from 14 to 79. Overall a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend China Spree.

This trip exceeded my expectations in every way. China Spree provided amazing value for the overall cost -- in food, guides, sites and sights visited, hotels, transport and really, every aspect. Our national guide was superb -- warm, funny, efficient, responsive and skillful. She was always looking to expand on possibilities for us and to handle any question or request at any time. China Spree has paid attention to every aspect of every day -- they have taken care of things you would never think of -- and so the trip rolls along amazingly well with many, many fabulous experiences packed in. Even our trip to the Great Wall was designed to allow us an hour to walk along a breathtaking section with no crowds (we saw maybe 16 people!). BRAVO China Spree!

She even remembered that I wanted some little tiger balm tins and picked them up for me when I wasn’t even looking! Truly -- she is one in a million!! She helped MAKE the trip!!

Answer: They were all helpful, kind, informative and cheerful. The guide in Xian needs better "crowd control" skills -- he was a little under-assertive and our group was a little over-assertive. I was impressed with their receptivity to ALL questions and with their openness when it came to discussing policies and practices of the Chinese government and the impact that different eras have had on the culture, their families, their lives.

CS: Based on yaour experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Make plans to GO TO CHINA!! (And go with CHINA SPREE !) China has the personpower, material resources, technology, brainpower, political will and money to do amazing things! They have an incredibly rich history and an unlimited future. Just go!

Dear Wilson,

I have filled out your form, but I also wanted to follow up with an email.

In doing so, please accept my personal thanks for what you and your company did to make our trip an amazing experience. Your concern to give us an excellent trip was obvious, and every one of the 20 of us had very high praise for China Spree.

Here are some additional thoughts for section 9 of your form:

My wife and I are experienced travelers who have always done our own planning, and we were very apprehensive about taking a guided tour and somewhat skeptical about what we would receive. Our concerns were mediocre hotels, bad food, and a bored staff herding us through one history spot after another. But the reality was entirely different. We had a fabulous experience, and we are grateful to China Spree in so many ways.

Instead of seeing just the tourist sights as expected, we saw so many aspects of life, culture and change in China today. There was a general consensus in our group that none of us could ever have dreamt up, no less seen, nearly that much on our own. Our accommodations were great if not outright luxurious for 9 of the 12 nights, and quite adequate for the other three. The Marriott City Wall in Beijing, the Guilin Sheraton and the Shanghai Pullman were among the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at, and the hotel in Yongshao seemed the best one in that small town. The breakfasts were a sight in themselves, as the buffets were enormous and carried both Chinese and western food. With a very few exceptions, the other meals ranged from good to excellent, and were designed to give us an idea of Chinese culinary culture. We ate in a private woman’s home in Beijing, went to a fine Peking duck restaurant, took cooking lessons on the Li River, had a dumpling banquet, cooked a meal in a hot pot, etc.

China Spree seems to have anticipated every small detail, taken care of everything, and to have cut no corners to make our trip memorable. They took us to some pretty out of the way places, a few of which were not even on their itinerary (like a kindergarten in the country and some cave dwellings still in use). Their personnel are, however, their biggest asset. Our national guide, the extraordinary Lisa Li, is the queen of guides. She wove us into a virtual family, made everyone feel special, made sure we did not get taken when buying things, and helped us bargain for better prices when we were. She was our seemingly tireless advocate every minute, a fountain of energy and information, and worked to give us every advantage. One moment she is getting local people in a park to invite us to join them in their morning exercises, the next is saving us time by bringing us to the front of a long line, and the next is asking a woman who lives in an old village by the rice terraces above Guilin to allow us a look inside her home. Lisa was assisted by four local guides in the various cities who were all very good, so we generally had two guides with us despite our small number. This really added to the experience. Wilson Li in Beijing and Sue in Guilin merit particular praise.

I’m not sure how China Spree does it, but we paid very modestly for what we got. In terms of value for money, this trip gets an easy 10.

Best regards,
Steven

My friends and I have been traveling internationally every year for the last decade, always on our own, never with a tour group. Because I was bring along my teenage daughter and elderly parents (67 and 71 years old), I wanted to find a tour that tailors to all different age group and physical ability. This was our first experience with group tours, and amazingly, China Spree exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The itinerary offered something for everyone at a pace that was fast enough to keep my friends and myself intellectually stimulated, my daughter from being bored, but slow enough so that my parents were able to manage. Our itinerary was packed with all the great historical sites, but what was more interesting was the cultural education aspect of our tour. We were able to visit and talk to local residents in their home, be it in a hutong, a cave, or in the mountains. It gave another dimension of understanding to our visit to China that other companies did not offer. Another great feature that China Spree provides is the tag-team of national and local tour guides. Our national guide, Jimmy was genuinely attentive, professional, and expounded warmth and happiness. Under his care, the quality of our stay in each city was superb and transitions from city to city was smooth and easy. If there was a request or even a suggestion, like stopping at the market to get peanut butter and jelly for the plane ride, or getting a tailor to visit our hotel room to make dresses for the ladies in our group, Jimmy was able incorporate it into our itinerary seamlessly. The accommodations at each city was wonderful. Every time we stepped into a new hotel, a collective sigh of "Wow" escaped our mouths as our eyes took in the extravagant decor. Our local guides actually live in the city we were touring. They were able to give us insight into the local current issues facing each region along with the history of each area we went to. All the guides spoke great English, and they were very aware of content vocabulary words used. They would patiently repeat the word and give a definition right after. Communication was not a problem at all. We definitely enjoyed having a variety of local guides, each of them with their own understanding and opinion of China's past, present, and future. It was an added bonus that our local guides held such different views of China. We all came away from this trip satisfied. It was well worth our time and money. Thank you China Spree.

CS: How do you like your National Guide?

Answer: His professionalism, respect for others, knowledge of Chinese culture and the touring industry, and mostly his caring nature makes Jimmy an outstanding guide. We were so lucky to have Jimmy as our tour guide. His clam yet always happy demeanor set a great tone for our group interactions. Following Jimmy's encouragement and example, our group traveled together so well and harmoniously, which added a lot of memorable moments to the tour. Jimmy is very patient and detail oriented. Whenever there is a suggestion or a request for something, Jimmy makes sure that it was done as soon as possible. My suitcase had busted by the time we arrived in Guilin, Jimmy arranged for the local guide to take me shopping first thing when we had some free time. My mom came to China with the expectation of buying fine quality calligraphy painting supplies. On his day off, Jimmy offered to take my mom and anyone else who wanted to come to the right shopping stores. The best thing about Jimmy is that he manages to take care of all of us always with a smile on his face and a laugh to end his sentences. We love the very apparent fact that Jimmy loves his job as a tour guide and the standards he holds for himself and strives to obtain is respectable and admirable. It was smooth sailing with Jimmy at the wheel.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Before we booked our tour with China Spree, we did about 4 months of research of other tour companies, from private tours to group tours. Benefit from our work; China Spree is definitely the company to travel with. They are quick to professionals, respectful, and quick to help in any way possible. There are no other company that will provide you the superb quality you will receive in the areas of accommodations and meals, knowledge of your guides, cultural and historical education, and if you are interested, intriguing conversations about contemporary and controversial issues facing China today.

I have always wanted to explore the ancient cultures of the world. I have been checking off places from my bucket list for a few years now; Italy and Greece were some of my favorite recent travels, and now it was China's turn. Although I have traveled extensively on my own to many countries in Europe I wanted a tour experience because of the language barrier and the convenience of having a tour guide to navigate this new country. I excitedly began to search on the internet for tour companies. (Note: I have taken four educational tours with Rick Steves' company, ETBD, so my standards are pretty high when it comes to tour companies.) I also looked at some travel forum websites like Frommer's, TripAdvisor, and Virtual Tourist to name a few. After I weighed the pros and cons of the companies that I researched I finally chose China Spree. I settled on an itinerary that gave me the best overall introduction to China for a fantastic price: China's Best Treasures. Having gone through this long process I was still questioning what I was getting myself into since I didn't know anyone personally who had used this company before. Crossing my fingers I paid the deposit for myself and my parents and made plans to go to Chicago to get my Chinese Visa. Well, I must say that my fears about the tour were gone as soon as I walked onto the Air China plane. This was a very comfortable air experience. As soon as we passed customs in Beijing there was a China Spree flag welcoming us to the vacation of my dreams! The minute I met Lisa I knew that this was going to be a good experience. She made it clear up front that her only desire was to make sure that this was the best tour and that she would do her very best to make sure that this happened. So, how can I sum up my 2 week intro to China? It was fabulous! Both my mother and retired father were very pleased with it as well. It was a good mix of ancient and modern, with city and rural scenes. Now let's talk basics: The hotels were modern and comfortable. They really surpassed my expectations. The Marriott Beijing and Pullman Shanghai were superior for their spaciousness and breakfast spreads. The food was plentiful and tasty all throughout the tour. Every single meal allowed us to find dishes on the revolving lazy-Susan that were delicious. If you tasted something you didn't like (this is very unlikely in my experience- and I'm kind of a picky eater), or it was too spicy, then there were other options to choose from. We always had enough food for everyone at the table, and it was interesting to have regional foods prepared for us to try. Peking duck, noodle dishes, hot pot (that was a fun experience), Mongolian BBQ, dumplings, oh, my... and Lisa bought fruit and candy along the way for us to try out, too! I usually lose weight when I tour, but not on this trip! The bathroom situation wasn't as bad as my mom thought it would be. Lisa made sure to include plenty of stops along the way for the group. She reminded us to use the facilities like a little mama and let us know if there were western or eastern toilets available. It is true that "squatters" are a test of balance, but I feel that it's just part of the whole experience- to "do as the Romans... rather, Chinese... do! " (Note: Most of the time there were western toilets to use.) By the end of the trip we were all pretty good at the bend-squat-aim-and hold- technique ;-) The tour scheduling is compact and your days are full, but there are restful periods to sit and have a drink, or just watch the passing scene while you wait for everyone to finish their "free time" photo ops and exploring. There were shopping stops- which we all took advantage of. I am not a shopping Diva, but if you are there are a lot of opportunities to look for treasures along the way. There are factory stops which begin as educational tours to show the process of cutting jade, or how silkworms are processed to make silk. A pearl factory, a silk rug factory, and a terracotta statue/lacquer workshop were all stops for this tour. If you wanted to drop some cash you could, but this also allowed for some free time to look around or relax for a moment before moving on. There were also times in the day to explore outdoor markets to try out your bargaining skills. I did not buy a lot, but I had fun at each place just looking around the workshops and display areas to admire the artistry and/or experience something new. The Best Treasures tour provided me with opportunities to see "the biggies" like the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Terracotta Warriors, and modern Shanghai, but what I liked most about this tour was the opportunity to visit places that I probably wouldn't have done on my own- like driving through the countryside to reach the Dragon Spine Terraces where we hiked up to see the mountain-hugging villages and tribe people who farm these rice terraces. Or the Li River area with its hauntingly beautiful karst limestone scenery. The water town of Tongli and gardens in Suzhou were also enjoyable as they gave me another view of historic Chinese cities and the culture. We visited a home in Beijing's Hutong district to have a meal prepared by a housewife. We also saw the home of the farmer who discovered the Terracotta soldiers in a farm field. Our group loved our peek into a nursery school where we were entertained with some songs from the children. One girl was the star of the show. This is one of the great memories of the tour. I also enjoyed the drives in more rural parts of China. Seeing the homes, store fronts, various modes of transportation, fruit stands, animals and farm fields- all these vignettes helped me to "see" more of the true China. Another big bonus are the cultural programs like the Tang Dynasty dancing and music show. Coming from a musical background, I truly enjoyed this spectacle. We opted for the Kung Fu show in Beijing and the Light show in Guilin (by the 2008 Olympic Games opening ceremony director) which we enjoyed tremendously. Seeing all of the pageantry reminded us of the 2008 Olympics. The skilled Shanghai acrobats were included as a part of the tour. The national guide was professional, efficient and friendly. She always looked out for us. She tried to "spread the butter" but could become a "dragon lady" if the need arose to get the job done! The regional/city guides were all informative and spoke English well. The bus drivers were proficient at their job. Water was provided throughout the day for drinking. The plane rides from Beijing to Xi'an, Xi'an to Guilin, and Guilin to Shanghai were good. The times that we flew were thoughtfully manipulated so that tthe whole day wasn't lost. We had the time to sightsee in the morning before our flight or we had an evening activity if we flew in the AM. Finally, the tour members that I shared this experience with were the best. I couldn't have asked for a friendlier, relaxed group! They truly helped to make this a wonderful tour as well. So, how would I rate this tour overall? I give it an unwavering 10. It will remain one of the best travel experiences that I have ever had in my life. I think that the highest praise I can give is that I will recommend China Spree to my friends and family. I have already been thinking about returning to China in the future myself to see other parts of this fascinating country. Thank you, Lisa for your personalized attention, and China Spree, for providing me with the opportunity for the trip of a lifetime.

Mr. Wu and China Spree,

Although we know you have many many great testimonials on your website, we wanted to add ours as maybe it's a bit unique given we took our two girls, Sophia 11 and Eva 9 on the 14 Day China Treasures tour. I tried submitting this online and it did not go through so trying again!

My wife and kids had never been to China, and the kids had never been to Asia. I know both Sophia and Eva both consider our national tour guide, Ming, their lifelong friend! She was so considerate of them and paid special attention while not slowing down the group or getting distracted, a rare talent.

We thought this tour was the right size (17 people) and the mixture of major attractions with meals at local's homes and "off the beaten track" cities and sites really gave us a glimpse into the China culture. What a wonderful country! The kids kept journals and it really helped them internalize what they saw. We also appreciated how the guides gave their opinions as well as facts, so we got an idea of how they thought about their country and its place in the world today.

We had the best vacation of our lives, and the kids loved it and felt safe and secure the whole time. We will definitely use China Spree again and have already recommended to a number of our friends. The hotels were excellent and the meals and shows were great. What a wonderful tour you have put together.

Thanks for changing my kid's perspective on the world, and treating us so well

Best Regards,

As I start to write this, I know it will sound like too many testimonials that are already on your website. These same testimonials had me a little suspicious, as I read them intently last winter. Let's address them first. This trip sounds like it is too good to be true, but it is not. The hotels are really as stunningly gorgeous as the photos show, and you are not shuttled off to tiny, plain rooms. The guides are charming, funny, generous and open. They will enrich your experience in ways that travelling independently probably will not. I simply can't understand how China Spree can offer so much for so little. This may not be the cheapest tour in the industry, but it is close, and it clearly gives you the best value. I met other tour groups that had as many as 88 people on them! Our 14 people got along quite cozily. With a group so small, we could go to much smaller locations, and didn't spend more time waiting for people than seeing the sights. Though this testimonial is about China Spree, it is also about China. Going now, at this pivotal time of change was breath-taking and inspiring. All of the big sights did not let us down: the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, the Karst region were as stunning as we hoped. However, it was the smaller sites that had the biggest impact on us, the ones that are not included in other tours. Cautiously walking into someone's home to see how they live, can feel intrusive. Instead we found ourselves warmly greeted and made to feel welcome. This was true at our lunch in the hutong, the yadong in Xi'an and the farmhouse in Yangshuo. Hiking in the Long Sheng rice terraces was a high point of the trip. I chose China Spree in part because of this one day listed, and it far exceeded my expectations. The tour is run seamlessly, so that all the minor hassles inherent in moving from place to place (hotel reservations, airplane tickets, entrance tickets, luggage shifting) are all wafted away from you. Even something as tiny as dehydration is not an issue, since they always kept the bus plentifully stocked with water. They time things so beautifully that a wait of any kind is a rare thing whether it is shows, meals or rides. Wilson Wu has done wonders in planning a 14-day trip where the meals are not repetitive. I think that there were only 3 dishes that showed up more than once. Considering that there are approximately 24 meals and 7 dishes per meal, that is nothing short of a mathematical feat!

Dear Mr Wu,

I am writing you as a repeat customer to tell you of the delight your company has provided my wife and myself over the past few years.

The first tour we took with China Spree was Chinas Best Treasures in April 2007. It was our first time going to Asia and also the first real guided tour in our world travels. We were really skeptical about what you stated you were offering. All our worries went away when we met our National Guide Li Ming at the airport in Beijing. She made us feel very comfortable and when we arrived at the hotel, we were awed by the luxury and the comfort. Ming took the people in our group that were from all over the country and from many different backgrounds and made us into a very cohesive group. Our first day local guide Robert was particularly observant and along with Ming changed the itinerary to allow the entire group to enjoy the sights without pushing any physical limits. The remainder of the tour had great local guides and Ming, of course. The accommodations were all luxurious and the service by bus drivers and porters was impeccable. Needless to say the entire trip was made by the warmth and caring of Ming for all in our group. MING WAS GREAT. We call her our Chinese Daughter and stay in contact with her. China is an awe inspiring country and we did see some of its treasures.

The second tour with China Spree was the Mighty Yangtze (Mar 28 - Apr 11, 2010). I had request Ming as the National Guide and was disappointed when she was not available. I should not have worried as when we met Lin at the airport, you could see that she loved what she did very much and made us all very comfortable. We have been blessed to have two great groups to see China. This group became so close immediately that it seemed like a large family and Lin was the glue that held it together. Having been to China before I had requests not on the itinerary. The first day Andy, our local guide and Lin got last minute tickets to the Peking Opera and assured that we were there without disturbing the rest our the group (Request #1). The Yangtze Cruise was first class we were the only group to sing both in Chinese and English at the passenger show thanks to Lin's Chinese Lessons. It has been my wife's dream to hold a baby Panda and when we got to the preserve the local guide Helen had procured the required pass to do so (Request #2). All the local guides were excellent and showed us as much of their cities as possible in the time given. You had told me you upgraded the hotels but the main upgrade had to be location. They were right in the middle of the action. The food was excellent and gave us a taste of the different provinces, Our guides were so good that even though there were a couple of technical difficulties, they were able to turn them into adventures and give us a closer look at Chinese life in the cities without missing anything on the itinerary, Lin kept us together for the entire tour so much that we all returned from our free day to have dinner together. LIN IS GREAT. She is our second Chinese Daughter and we will stay in touch.

You have stated that there will be new itineraries in the next couple of years and we intend to be back, hopefully with one of our Chinese Daughters as National Guide. We are constantly recommending your company to friends and coworkers and have received great comments from those that have used China Spree.

We were absolutely "blown away" by our trip with Chinaspree. Everything about this trip exceeded our expectations. We can't say enough about it, and I keep talking to all my friends about what a great tour it was. They packed in the most wonderful highlights of China in each locale. Their tour guides were extraordinary; we had both a ntaional tour guide and local guides in each of the four regions. They were not only knowledgeable and fun to be with it, but went way out of our way to make sure the trip worked for each person, including the three children in our group. The food was not only plentiful but fantastic; we ate in private rooms and were served plate after plate of deliciousness. It felt like each meal was better than the last. Each locale had its own distinctive flavors. Some of the unique experiences were SO unique: aside from the normal wonderful sites one would want to see (Great Wall, Teracotta Warriors, Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, etc), there were so many surprises: the entertainment at night (Classical Chinese Music, Shanghai Acrobats, a production on the water in Guilin with a case of thousands), the silk factory process, where we learned how silk is made from cocoon to finished product, the Guilin River Trip, exquisite in its beauty and so interesting and fun, a rickshaw ride through old Beijing, a lunch in a family's home in Beijing, where we learned from the mom how to cook dumplings; a visit to a one room Yao Dung" where most of the people who don't live in the cities live in caves dug into the mountain: these experiences are so unique. We NEVER could have had such a rich and full trip trying to go on our own. It was absolutely delightful. 100 on a scale of 1-10. And I would repeat it in a second flat.

CS: Things that impressed you most on this trip

Answer: What impressed us most was the food, the excellence of the tour guides, how happy the people were; how taken care of people in China are (parks within 15 minutes of where people live in Shanghai); when they decimate an apartment complex, they give people larger rooms and transport all the businesses as well, retired people seem to be having such a good time in the parks. The country is so beautiful, and they are handling the rapid pace of growth well, we think. It did not seem crowded to us; there was a flow and ease about getting around. Guilin was absolutely beautiful, as was the Reed flute cave. The Terracotta Warriors took our breath away when we first walked in there.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: How about 100? Lucy was absolutely amazing. She went way out of her way for us and EVERYONE, taking care of all requests, and even requests that were unspoken, finding ways to make it work for everyone all of the time.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: would say go to China! It is unlike any picutres that you have in your head about what it's like. It's an amazing country, with wonderful people, beautiful and fascinating sites, and going now, while it is in its rapid growth phase, is the perfect time. We loved it! We loved everything about this trip. And I'd go with China Spree. They make it not only affordable, but super comfortable, almost luxurious. It was like having a five start experience all the way while paying fantastic prices. Talk about being economical! Unbelievable.

I signed up with China Spree based solely on the rave review provided by a globe-trotting friend who took one of its China tours in 2007, when the company had only recently started. From my own experience and after talking to my fellow travelers, I am convinced that I could not have done better, or indeed nearly as well, with any other tour group, based on value, accommodations, meals and guide service. My expectations were therefore high, and yet were exceeded by China Spree's performance. One telling indicator is that the generally middle-aged clientele attracted by China Spree from my experience is well-educated, gregarious, sophisticated and a pleasure to interact with. The trip option I chose, the 14-day 'Best Treasures' tour, precisely served my interests and provided several pleasant surprises to sites that I was not previously aware of. The guide service was outstanding and included both an overall national guide and local guides, all fluent in English, courteous, attentive to individual client needs and very knowledgeable. Long bus rides were enhanced by mini lectures and humorous tales narrated by our guides. The lodgings at new and lavish five-star hotels also exceeded expectations and were something to look forward to after long and full days of touring and sight-seeing. Meals were also first-rate and included an "international" breakfast with a vast choice of dishes and, but for one "Western-style" dinner, excellent Chinese food at both lunch and dinner. A testimony to the food quality and hygienic preparation was that no one to my knowledge developed any kind of stomach ailments after any of the meals arranged by China Spree. Considering the many things that can go wrong on a first-time tour of an exotic and complex country like China, my China Spree tour in the fall of 2009 was the most efficiently planned and executed operation that I have experienced in years. I enthusiastically recommend China Spree to anyone with an adventurous travel spirit who is interested in visiting this fascinating and increasingly important country.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: Ron Wang is clearly a 'Ten'. I cannot imagine how he could have improved on his overall performance. His command of English is most impressive, as well as his sense of humor, his deep knowledge of Chinese history and his attention to every detail. He took outstanding care of us at all times, especially me, as the group's oldest member with a degree of walking and climbing limitations.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Participants in their 60s and 70s or those who have any leg-related limitations should be aware that there is a considerable amount of walking and climbing involved, especially in the early days of the tour.

14-Day China’s Best Treasures

A last minute business trip to China gave us an opportunity to tour this mysterious but alluring country. But we only had 5 days to connect with a tour group. Fortunately, we learned of China Spree and asked if we could join their "China's Best Treasures" group that was arriving in Beijing in just a few days. Their initial reaction was understandable -- "not possible" -- there were too many hotels, airlines and other details to arrange. But Wilson Wu, the Managing Director stepped in and made it all happen. We were amazed! Service above and beyond all expectations! Upon joining the group we discovered an energy ball named Lisa, who worked day and night to take care of our every need. When 4 members of our group were delayed in New York, Lisa made special arrangements for them to see the most important sites in Beijing that they had missed. Who else but China Spree would do such a thing? Over and over we found China Spree going beyond what was required in order to care for individual needs and interests. For example, in Guilin my wife and I wanted to take a countryside bicycle ride and hike that the other group members weren't interested in. Our local guide went with us to the bicycle shop, negotiated an excellent rental rate AND a personal guide, and then contacted the personal guide by phone along our way to make certain everything was going well. Who else but China Spree would do such a thing? On our last day our schedule necessitated an early morning departure, well before the rest of the group. And who shows up in the lobby, before sunrise, to wish us well, make sure we had a box breakfast and give instructions to the taxi driver? -- LISA! Who else but China Spree.... Needless to say, we were amazed and delighted with the service and style of the China Spree tour. The selection of sites to visit was outstanding. The hotels were far better than we anticipated. The food was always carefully selected and "safe". And we felt secure and comfortable all the way from beginning to end. We kept asking each other, "How can they do this for the price we paid?" We have a large family and are excited about the prospects of bringing them all to China under the guidance of China Spree. What better recommendation could we give? Thanks, China Spree, Wilson Wu, and Lisa!!

Answer: 10+++ Lisa was refreshing, fun, personable. We loved her cheerful Ni hao each morning, her Chinese lessons every day, and how she unified our group. She stopped at nothing to see that we had everything we required. Her sense of humor, knowledge of English and willingness to learn were evident as she conversed, joked and teased. Lisa is a tourist's dream guide.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: For us, China held so many mysteries and uncertainties. Our anxiety for traveling in China was great but being with China Spree alleviated all of that. From the very first meeting with our guide and the very first day in Beijing we felt comfortable, safe and well informed throughout the 12-day tour. Surprisingly, we didn't have to worry about security, the food, or the accommodations.

Lisa...she impressed me the most. I loved her knowledge and humor and she brought China and all it's wonders up close and personal to her tour. Next to her it was Hiking the Great Wall with all it's majestic beauty, Terra Cotta Warriors and the Show by Zhang Yimou on the Li River against its limestone peaks..

Lisa was China's Best Treasure.. She is a perfect example of Excellent Customer Service.. She really made each person in our group feel special and i personally watched her turn from sweetheat to Dragon Lady when one hotel messed up our rooms...Lets just say she knows how to get things done. We could not be more pleased.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: This trip is an adventure of a lifetime and the amazing sites will always be in your memories and photo's.

China Spree offered us an outstanding monetary value. It was hard to believe for the price that we were offered so much. In addition, we had an excellent tour guide whose English was very good and who was very knowledgable about local and national history. She looked after us like a mother hen, always anticipating every need. Lisa helped us to bargain for expensive items and taught us how to barter and deal with the street vendors. The tour itself was well-planned and had a flexible itinerary if the group needed a little more time at various places. Lots of bottled water was always available on the coach and no one got sick on the trip. All hotels were top-notch and the good food offered was varied with both American and Chinese offerings. Adjustments were made for people with special food needs. We are already planning a return tour with China Spree and are recruiting our friends to go along. If you get Lisa as your guide, we must rate China Spree as the best tour we have ever taken.

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: Everything. The hotels were wonderful with excellent service and food. A tour guide can make a trip wonderful, terrible or boring. Lisa Li was extraordinary: great sense of humor, knew lots of historical facts, looked after us like a mother hen, every need or wish was immediately taken care of.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Lisa Li is a 10 plus, see comments above. The trip would not have been as enjoyable with another guide. She was very professional, had great personality and was attentative to every need, always thought ahead and was ready for whatever we might need or ask for. Flexible when we stayed too long because of enjoyment or ready to change a particular site for another time if better suited. Lisa helped us to bargain for better prices and helped us learn to bargain with the locals.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Bring toliet paper and sunscreen and drink lots of water every day. If you see something you want to buy, get it then, you probably won't see the item again. Be sure to bring currency that is as new and crisp as possible, especially in larger denominations.

We loved our China's Best Treasures tour with China Spree. Our tour guide Lisa was absolutely fantastic. She had great information, was fun, and looked after our every need. It was great that we didn't have to go by the itinerary word for word. We would change a day here or there because of what the group wanted or what was happening in the city that day. The sightseeing was fantastic, and the shopping was just the right amount. Plus the hotels were amazing. Very luxurious for us who are budget travellers. The price for the tour is great too. China Spree arranged our connecting flights and visas and everything went smoothly. When I go back to China, I will definitely go with China Spree!

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: Our guide Lisa made the trip fantastic for us. Besides the places we went, she was the absolute best thing about the trip. We loved Forbidden City, the rice terraces outside Guilin, the dim sum dinner and show, the Terra Cotta warriors, the buddhist temple, walking on the wall, our hotels in Beijing and Shanghai were amazing, the show in Yangshou, and Li river cruise. Our guide Jack in Guilin was also great. I also liked that we didn't have to stick exactly to our itinerary. We changed the day we went to the Forbidden City because of the rehearsal for Oct 1 parade and we skipped a second silk tour because no one in the group wanted to go.

CS: Things that impressed you most on this trip

Answer: Lisa. She was fantastic in arranging anything we wanted, helping when there were any problems, or attending to any of our needs. I don't eat red meat or pork and at every meal she was very careful to tell me what was in each dish. I was very impressed with the quality of hotels we stayed in. I'm more of a budget traveller and it was very nice to stay in such great hotels.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: 10 absolutely. I can't imagine any way she could have been better. Not only was she a perfect guide, but she is a nice and genuine person as well.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: You'll be happy you chose China Spree. They made the trip very easy and took care of our every need. Highly recommended!

I am so glad I went on this trip to China with Chinaspree. I liked being part of a small group (there were 19 in our group) because I was able to get to know everybody well. We also looked out for each other, especially when one of our tour members developed a pinched nerve in her left hip and was in severe pain. Our tour guide, Lisa, was excellent and she worked tirelessly on our behalf. She was particularly helpful to me with an incident regarding two street vendors who cheated me out of an extra 200 yuan. I would have let it go but Lisa put on her "Dragon Lady" persona and fought for me. We were able to see the famous sights all tourists go to see, like Tianenmen Square and the Terra Cotta Warriors, but we also got to have lunch with a local family in the hutongs of Beijing, meet a family of yao dong dwellers, go on a Li River cruise and view the stunning scenery and wildlife, visit the rice paddies of Long Sheng, and have a free day in Shanghai. I will treasure the memory of my free day in Shanghai as I got to personally meet my penfriend Peter, whom I had corresponded with for 13 years. I felt like a resident riding the city buses of Shanghai and appreciated Peter's expertise in bargaining with the vendors on my behalf.

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: There were so many things I like that it would take a long time to list them all. Briefly, here are my favorite things: our national guide, Li Yuan a.k.a. Lisa, our local guides Jack (Guilin) and Susan (Shanghai), our skillful drivers, the small size of the group (19), the other tour members, the wonderful hotels, all the included excursions and meals, the light show in Yangshuo, the Li River cruise, the "discovery" experiences, and the smoothness of getting to and from each place.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: Our tour manager, Lisa, should be rated a 10-plus. She was very personable and allowed us to get to know her well. Most tour guides are rather aloof, which is necessary when you are herding around a group of 40 or more wide-eyed tourists. Being part of a small group allowed us to get to know Lisa and each other on a more intimate level. Lisa's general performance was excellent, excellent, excellent! She got to know each of us well and had a good sense of humor. We taught her the phrase "clear as mud" after she told us about once telling a tour group that she was "spreading butter on them" instead of "buttering them up."

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Do go with an open mind. China is trying hard to maket itself to Westerners: signs are in both Chinese and English and the vendors know pidgin English. But be prepared for "eastern style" toilets, which are difficult for Western women to use. I have greater respect for Chinese women now! It's also hard to deal with the aggresive sales tactics of the street vendors. Coming from a culture in which the price stated is the final price in most cases, bargaining is a bit intimidating and the vendors' aggression can get annoying. But it's all part of the experience of being in another country and culture and it enriches one's life.

Our family of four (two adults and two teen / 20s children) took the China Best Treasures tour led by Ron. The group was eleven in total, large enough to create new friendships and small enough to allow us to move through the two weeks with little hassle or delay. Since this was our first time to China, it was a great introduction to the sites you'd want to see plus it provided enough variety to keep all of us interested. Ron was a terrific leader and in many ways became an extension of our families during the two weeks. He was very knowledgable about all aspects of China's history through the current time, but he has a wonderful grasp of the English language and was able to weave in his unique sense of humor to always keep us interested and amused. We did quite a bit of research before choosing China Spree. We found that their tours are competitively priced and provice many of the same accommodations and sights that the more expensive tours charge. Their group size is also smaller than many of the other tours offered at a similar price point. We would highly recommend both China Spree and this particular tour for an intro to China; we are looking forward to taking other China Spree tours in the future.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: We loved out National Guide Ronald. We could not have asked for a better person to help make our time in China very memorable. Ron presented the material very well. He did not come across as if he memorized the facts. His English is wonderful. He has a great sense of humor. Ron is a very personable person. We enjoyed being with him and had a difficult time saying good bye.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: When traveling to China you need to remember it is an adventure you will come across situations that will take you out of your comfort zone- not having a a toilet seat is one of them. This all part of the expereince and the flavor of the culture. You can not depend on using credit cards as we do in the states, you need cash mostly...Umbrellas are not only good for the rain, but can be use for the the hot sun.

My wife and I took the Best Treasures trip in August 2009. This trip was a real bargain at the China Spree price. We usually travel as independent travelers and arrange everything ourselves, but for our first trip to China, using this organized tour was really the way to go. We were impressed by the hotels, flights, food, and sites that we saw. The services of Ronald Wang as our host guide allowed us to tour with a feeling of personal safety while providing valuable insight into life in China now and in the past. Our group was of a modest size (11) and everyone meshed well together as friends. Everything ran smoothly and to our satisfaction...well done China Spree!

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: We think Ronald Wang is awesome and deserves the highest rating. He is very well educated and provided a lot of insight. We felt that he went overboard looking out for our best interest and well being. His efforts made us feel safe wherever we went. We particularly liked it that he was able to provide a living experience from growing up in the Mao era of the 1960's & 70's. Quite frankly we liked Ron because although he lives in China, he was like us (commonality). He was the same age as most of our group, we all had similar educations, and his family is similar to all our families. He could be one of our friends back home.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Now is the time to go and see China because it is changing at such a dramatic rate. The current low cost of this vacation makes it well within reach of many travelers...they just don’t know it.

We picked China Spree from a group we found on the internet. We were apprehensive about choosing a company with no personal recommendations. We have arranged and traveled on maybe 15+ tours before with high school students and realize there can be big differences in companies. A group of 3 of us joined the tour and we just got back a week ago. I can not tell you how much we loved it. Anybody can write a testimonial, but I can truly say that we are total believers in China Spree after our experience. I had traveled to China several times on business, but never seen the sights. So, we were glad to have English speaking, knowledgeable guides and they orchestrated the trip with precision. We had several guides and each was fantastic. This tour company gave us a great trip for a very reasonable price. The tour is for anyone that wants to visit China and experience this interesting and diverse country in a very practical and comfortable manner. We loved it and we loved China Spree. We had an incident on our trip that called for representatives to go far above and beyond the call of duty in the early morning hours. The representatives demonstated great care and compassion and took care of a couple with a medical emergency at home with great professionalism. You won't be sorry if you choose China Spree.

CS: Things that impressed you most on this trip?

Answer: The guides, the tour buses, the attention to detail, the fact that your representatives came and got 2 of our tour members and took them to the airport due to a family emergency and then met them in Beijing and helped them there. Now THAT is customer service.. We are dedicated China Spree fans now and have already recommended your company to many of our associates.

CS: The local guides, per your opinion, need improvement. Please specify in details

Answer: If I put in one word of criticism about any guide, I would be doing them a disservice. We were VERY pleased. My wife has led 17 tours of high school kids mostly to Spain and they always had tour guides, so she knows good ones from bad ones. She said the China Spree guides were some of the best she has ever experienced.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: The people are friendly, the country is safe and clean, the bathrooms available and the food great. Don't miss the chance to experience China.

Traveling China with China Spree was the best choice we made this year. From the moment we stepped off the plane in Beijing to the moment we left from Shanghai, absolutely everything was organized for us. The food was delicious and everyone had their favorites. The hotel accomodations were all extremely luxurious and we felt very comfortable throughout the trip with the different transportation methods as well. Jim Mao, our national guide was another Treasure that made our trip that much more enjoyable. He went above and beyond to make everybody happy and made sure everything was always perfectly planned. We never had to wait in line anywhere! He made us feel right at home in a country so far away. I would definately recommend China Spree for traveling to China!

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: Our tour guides were all extremely friendly, knowleadgable, and outgoing. Especially Jim Mao made our trip very special and brought our group together like a family. I also like the family style lunches and dinners because it allowed us to get to know all the other families. I also liked the combination of museums and sightseeing with more active days like the rice terraces.

Answer: Our national guide Jim Mao, was very organized and worked hard to make everybody happy. He made our busrides pass by so fast because he taught us some Chinese and gave us details about both our itinerary and the places we were traveling to. He deserves a 10 without a doubt. I would recommend China Spree to be done with Jim Mao to any of my friends/family!

I am so impressed with China Spree! Our tour was just great -- more than I dreamed it would be and was also a wonderful value. We went on the Best Treasures tour in July, 2009. Our accommodations were all better than I expected. Every hotel room was very clean and even luxurious. Our meals were great. Most meals were Chinese and served family style. The food was very good, but not so different from American style Chinese food that you should be concerned about it being too foreign. We had about 12-15 different dishes -- no kidding -- served at each meal. The food was plentiful and with each meal you have your choice of bottled water, soda, or beer. China Spree handled every aspect of the tour process from registration to our return home professionally. They are really on top of things. Everything went as planned and with no surprises. We had a group of 15 people and had a tour guide that accompanied us for the whole trip as well as an additional guide at each of the locations within China. That is, an additional guide with us between each domestic flight. Our guides were knowledgeable and fun to be with. They spoke English well. They knew what they were doing in terms of leading a group as well. We always felt safe and knew that we could depend on them to help us with whatever we might need. Our tour kept us busy throughout the day. We would typically leave the hotel at 8 AM visit one or two sites, have lunch at a convenient location and go onto the next site. We sometimes ate dinner before returning to the hotel or sometimes had an hour or so back at the hotel before we went to dinner. After dinner, there were sometimes other activities. There were only one or two activities that were optional with an additional fee. These were reasonably priced and it made sense that they should be optional. For example, there was a Kung Foo show option in Beijing the night of the first full day. Some people were really exhausted and chose not to go. Others were not interested. We did go. The show was reasonable -- as I recall about $30 per person -- and was well worth the money. We could never have done this trip as efficiently on our own. It was great to sit back, let China Spree do the work, and have the benefit of their expertise and knowledge at our fingertips! I never thought that I would consider a second trip to China, but now I hope to go back again soon. Thank you China Spree!

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: It was perfect! The balance with free time and planned time was very good. The local guides were knowledgeable and excellent. I especially would like to compliment Michael in Beijing. He has a great personality for the job, is a born storyteller. He was fabulous! Lisa in Xian was sweet and very helpful and knowledgeable as well. I can't say enough to compliment our national guide, Jim Mao. He made us feel safe, welcome and was a font of knowledge. This was my first guided tour. I would generally prefer the independence of traveling on my own. I think that in a country as complex and different that your tour was the perfect choice. You kept us busy, our accommodations and meals were superb, the itinerary included EVERYTHING I could have hoped for. The experience of your guides and the organization of your company was excellent. Things went smoothly every step of the way.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: It will be the trip of your life! Relax and rest assured that China Spree will make your experience great!

China Spree has greatly exceeded my expectations and provided me, my husband and friends a memorable tour of this beautiful country. In the very beginning our tour guide met each of us with friendliness and made us all feel welcomed. Not knowing what to expect , I was very surprised to find that our accomodations were nothing but 1st class. The food was exceptionally delcious and the people were so very gracious. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable about their country and they made every effort to make sure that when we went back home we took a piece of this beautiful country with us. China Spree made every effort to provide a tour that included all the magnificient places that they could possibly fit into a 14 day tour which started from the Tiananmen Square, to the Great Wall, to the Li River, the Long Sheng's Dragon Spine Terraces and everything in between. We have learned so much. Thank you China Spree for giving me an experience that I will always remember and cherish!

CS: What did you like about this trip?

Answer: For starters I loved the tour guides. Ron, Linda and Carl were friendly, knowledgeable, humorous, helpful and tolerant. I miss Ron - he was like family. He took such good care of our group and he made everything easy for us. Your country is beautiful, the people are so very gracious, the food was so delicious and our accomadations were 1st class throughout the entire trip. My husband and I loved our trip and we made so many new friends in our tour group. My memories are Beautiful!

I cannot imagine a more wonderful two week tour of China for our group of returning parents and Chinese adopted girls. The trip exceeded all our expectations. The itinerary was full of memorable highlights like the Great Wall, the Long Sheng rice paddies, the Li River cruise and our bicycle ride on the top of the old Xi 'an city wall. Everything ran smoothly. The hotels, buses, and meals were all of the highest caliber. Beyond the well thought through and well delivered tour, we all LOVED our national tour guide, Lisa Li. She was warm, caring, knowledgeable, and flexible. She worked non-stop to make sure our trip was the best it could be. We appreciated the excellent staff work of China Spree in China and the United States. We have come back with memories that will last our lifetime along with a much greater understanding of China's past and present. Thank you, China Spree!

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: Ding, ding, ding hao! Excellent. On a scale of 1-10 Lisa Li gets a 20!! She is responsible for turning a good tour into a fantastic tour for us. She was personable with everyone, she shared stories from her family life that everyone loved, she was always on top of the logistics - getting us the right rooms and making sure that the buses and food were on time. She was knowledgeable about all the sites were visited. She was flexible when we needed more time. Both adults and our girls loved her like family at the end of the trip.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

My 12-year old daughter and I went on this trip with another mother-daughter pair. I have travelled quite a bit independently and was was a little concerned about taking a package tour. I dreaded the idea of alighting everywhere from a tour bus and just looking at what the guide pointed at, but I could see the tour would be less expensive and easier than trying to put together the same trip ourselves. The bus and guides turned out to be great advantages! We saw much more than we would have without the guides and the bus, and never felt trapped. The bus saved us a lot of time over other transportation and was very comfortable and handy as a 'home base' to stash extra clothing, purchases or things we might want later. We always had a case of bottled water on the bus, and shared snacks. The kids took over the back of the bus, passing iPods back and forth and playing cards on longer trips. Often, we were eager to climb on the bus and sit down and enjoy the AC after a couple of hours of sightseeing. The guides ensured we got to the sites when they were open but less crowded and managed all of our transportation. I hadn't realized how much time and energy I normally spend while traveling on that, but it made this trip very relaxing and stress-free. We had free time to wander around on our own at most of the major sites (for example we had several hours at the Great Wall). Because each of our guides was also a local resident and rode on the bus with us, we were able to quiz them about their families and how they lived and they were all very friendly and open. The national guide who was with us for the entire trip was a seasoned professional, and took full responsibility for ensuring that each of us was comfortable and having fun every day of the trip. I am a vegetarian and have been to China twice in the past. Based on that experience, I expected to lose weight on this trip, as I have on past trips to China. Instead, I am afraid I ate my way through China. China Spree took us to some good restaurants, and ensured we were well-served. At every meal the guides had notified the restaurant in advance and not only pointed out what was vegetarian when it was brought to the table, but got additional vegetarian dishes just for me. Every meal was different, and most were really delicious. I would recommend China Spree to anyone going to China, particularly anyone who hasn't been there before and wants to pack a lot of sightseeing into one trip. The China Spree Best Treasures trip is a nice mix of historical sites and natural beauty. An equivalent trip in the US would cover the monuments in Washington DC and the Boston area, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone, a steamboat cruise down the Mississippi with a broadway show in New York City - imagine doing that in two weeks!

CS: Things that impressed you most on this trip

Answer: LongSheng was beautiful, and very interesting. That was my favorite day and site on the trip. After that, I enjoyed visiting the kindergarten next door to the Yao Dong we visited and the lunch in a Hutong household in Beijing. Overall however, our national tour guide was the best thing about our trip.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: Jim is a 10. He seemed genuinely happy with his job, friendly, and concerned that each of us have a good time. He is also very practical and an excellent time-manager. He had us everywhere on time, even though he didn't seem to be watching his watch or worrying about it. He took care of us in every sense, ensuring we had our passports and belongings, drank enough water, put on bug repellant, and avoided pickpocketers. He noticed my daughter had a cold, and offered to take me to a pharmacy to get some remedies, which we did. He recommended some evening events, such as foot massages in Guilin, that were not on the itinerary, even though doing so extended his own working day.

This was our first oversees trip as a family (6 of us). Our family includes 3 teen-agers and a tween. Earlier this year we decided it was good time for all of us to take our "dream" vacation to China and explore our Chinese heritage. Having never been to China before, we wanted to take the best tour available. We researched many other tour companies, and were almost ready to book with another popular tour company, but when we spoke with some relatives, we changed our mind. Our relatives, had taken the China Spree 14 day China's Best Treasures tour, last year and only had positive things to say out it. After doing more research, we decided to take the same tour. We were not disappointed. Our national tour guide, Ronald Wang, was excellent, as were the local guides. All of them were very knowledgable and informative. It was an unbelievable trip; the intinerary is packed full of sightseeing, exploring and educational experiences. Our 4 kids were never bored. They absorbed everything they heard, saw, smelled (daughter #1 couldn't get use to the incense smells) and tasted (the kids all learned to like eggplant, especially the eggplant dish at the rice terrance restaurant in Long Sheng). There was alway ample time to shop. Our 2 teen-aged boys loved to bargain shop and their favorite show was the Kung Fu show. At every show we attended, we had excellent seats. The Culture InSites is also one of the reason why we booked with China Spree. The lunch at a Hutong home was interesting and the visit to a village/farm in Xian gave us a look into how our ancestor lived. Overall, the food was good; we liked how all of the hotels served western types of breakfast foods, too. The accomodations were excellent, mostly 4-5 star. We all got along well and made lots of new friends. None of us wanted the tour to end, we were having so much fun! We look forward (especially the kids) in booking another China Spree tour in the future, possibly the Silk Roads and letting #1 tour guide, Ronald Wang lead the way.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: Honestly, Ronald Wang, was the BEST! Definately a 10 ++. Ronald was always looking out for all of us, making sure we were all safe, and together and having enough bottled water (very important). He would point out the "Happy House" (toilets), for us. "Never miss an opportunity", Ronald would say. He knew us women. We all learned a lot from him and I personally, enjoyed listening about his personal experiences as a tour guide and his personal life.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: You will not be disappointed. Our family of 6 is already looking forward to another China Spree tour in the future. Plus, 2 of our Chinese friends have booked a 16 day tour for later this year because of our recommendations. They even want our tour guide, Ronald Wang.

What an amazing trip! If you're looking for a very good and honest tour company, China Spree is the way to go. I have learned so many amazing things from my stay in China; I only wished I had booked a longer stay. China Spree took care of everything - once you step off the plane in Beijing you are taken care of until you leave for home. Excellent meals, excellent hotels, flawless service from the bus driver to the tour guides, everything you can imagine; not to mention all the amazing destinations your tour will take you to (depending on the package). When it came down to choosing which tour company to use I'm so happy I went with China Spree; you won't be disappointed. I would recommend you ask for Jim Mao as your national tour guide, he made the trip that much more special and unique. In the beginning I was debating whether to go to China by ourselves and make all the travel arrangements. Thank God we didn't, it would've been a bit of a hassle; our guides took care of our domestic flights, meals plentiful and served up quickly, our hotel arrangements, our transportation within the cities, our tickets for the cultural sites, any special requests we had. It just put your mind at ease to know you had such good people taking care of everything, and it allowed us to really sit back and enjoy the ride. Also worth mentioning is that large groups get priority access to most of the historical sites, so we really didn't stand in the long lines for the individual entrance. I was a bit skeptical a first putting all my trust in one company - but the quality and service we got was unsurpassed and I would definitely recommend China Spree to anyone wanting to experience China. When the opportunity comes to visit China again, I'll be booking with China Spree.
